Hello everyone!

Something a bit different for today’s post – my first ever mini fashion shoot for the blog!  I’ve fancied giving it a go for a while now.  After all, I love fashion, and I love facing new challenges with my photography.  And why should all the younger bloggers have the fun of wearing nice clothes?

TopVintage got in touch and asked if they could gift me a frock from their website, a shop full of beautiful vintage inspired pieces.  I chose this midnight blue velvet dress.  I thought at first I might shoot it in the woods near my house, but then I had a bit of a light bulb moment.  You may remember that back in the summer the children and I joined the National Trust, and we spent a glorious few hours exploring beautiful Felbrigg Hall in Norfolk.  I knew that the orangery would be an amazing place to shoot my self portrait, with the amazing greenery and huge windows.  The people at Felbrigg Hall kindly gave me permission to shoot, so I went on a day when only the gardens are open, in the hope that it would be a bit quieter.

I had visions of shooting on a gloomy day, not only for softer light but also for a slightly gothic, melancholy feel.  However the sun shone brightly that day, which led to a few challenges whilst shooting!  (Bright sunlight surprisingly isn’t always helpful for taking photographs – it can lead to contrasty, over exposed pictures.)  Anyway, I spent a joyful hour shooting on timer and tottering in and out of frame, and playing a game of hide and seek from the bright sunlight!  I also just decided to go with it for a few shots, which led to some interesting results.  The focus was a bit hit and miss in places too, as I had to focus on a spot where I thought my head was going to be!  All in all it was a challenge which I relished, and I’m pretty pleased with the results.  I love the colour of the dress against the vivid, lush greens.

Luckily only a few people came into the orangery whilst I was shooting, and I didn’t get too many funny looks!

In other news, I will share some pics with you over the next few days of our Insta-meet and photo walk in beautiful Southwold a couple of weeks ago.  I also treated myself to the most amazing rustic work bench last week, which I will take some snaps of to share with you!

Enjoy the rest of your week!
